Background

The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) is affiliated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). As a global centre of excellence in hospitality and tourism education and research, it serves the industry and academic communities through the advancement of education and dissemination of knowledge.

 

 

International Recognition and Status

The SHTM was designated by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as one of its global Education and Training Network Centres in 1999. In February 2002, the School became one of the first educational institutions to receive the UNWTO’s TedQual Certification, a quality assurance system for tourism education, training and research. The SHTM is currently a member of the UNWTO Knowledge Network.

 

The SHTM is ranked No. 2 in the world among the global top hospitality and tourism programmes, and continued to hold first place in Asia. In 2012, the SHTM was bestowed the McCool Breakthrough Award by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE) recognising its breakthrough in the form of its teaching and research hotel – Hotel ICON – the heart of the School’s innovative approach to hospitality and tourism education.
